Cons, Catnip Cabana, and Commencements

Dodging a $2500 Con Game

Last autumn, I rolled my rig into a nearby RV service department for a routine oil change and a thorough once-over. What ensued was a plot twist I hadn't seen coming.

The service team delivered the dreaded news: my brake pads were apparently hanging on for dear life, with percentages that made my heart skip a beat—10% and 30%. Cue the alarms. But something didn't sit right. Sure, they had already lightened my wallet with an overpriced oil change, but $2,500 for brake pad replacements? My inner skeptic went into overdrive.

Fast forward to last week. I steered my Dream Big rig to Les Schwab Tire Center, opting for a second opinion. Tires, battery, and those supposedly ailing brake pads were all on the inspection docket. And guess what? The grand revelation: my brake pads were fine, boasting plenty of mileage ahead. Talk about a plot twist!

Not only did Les Schwab set my mind at ease, but they also didn't charge a single penny for their diagnostic prowess. Meanwhile, the RV service place? Well, let's just say they tried to fleece me.

This experience serves as a gentle nudge to trust your gut, particularly when the numbers on the estimate sheet look inflated. Thanks to Les Schwab's keen eye and honest service, I dodged a financial bullet to the tune of $2,500. Thank you, Les Schwab.

This past weekend, while enjoying the tranquility of my outdoor haven, I realized it was missing something essential: a proper name. Armed with paints and a brush, I set out to give my sanctuary the recognition it deserves. After a bit of contemplation, I settled on the name "Catnip Cabana." It's a proper name for my little corner of paradise.

A weekly newsletter from Dr. Brenda, Money Coach In Memory of a Friend I Never Met Recently, I was hit with unexpected news on Facebook. It was a reminder of how the digital world connects us in ways we sometimes overlook. Karin, a friend I had met through one of the RVing women groups, had passed away. Though we had never met face-to-face, her presence was deeply felt in my online community. Karin had a knack for appearing at just the right moment, offering words of encouragement and support...
